Zeno attended school at Old Mission and St. John Nepomucene Catholic School, Ft. Atkinson, IA and Campion College in Prairie du Chien, Wl for one year.

His father, Frank J. Huber was born 14 Dec 1864 at the Huber farm in Washington Twp. His mother Veronica Mary (Sluka) was born 13 Dec 1864 at McGregor, IA.

Mildred Theresa Riehle was born 9 Jan 1903 at Ft. Atkinson, the second daughter of Henry and Emma (Held) Riehle. She attended St. John Nepomucene Catholic School and Ft. Atkinson Public High School.

Zeno met Mildred at a basket social in Ft. Atkinson. They were married 24 Nov 1920 at St. John’s Church. Zeno and Mildred started farming the Old Mission Huber farm in 1921 and remained there until Zeno’s death 7 Jun 1962.

Zeno and Mildred had 11 children: Zeno W.. Jr. (b. 3 Jul 1921-2 Sep 1986); Marie C. Stafford (b. 15 Aug 1922); Thelma R. Lair (b. 18 Feb 1924); Robert J. (b. 18 Mar 1925-d. 1 Apr 1944); Coletta M. Amelina (b. 22 Jan 1927-d.15 May 1953); Richard F? (b. 7 Aug 1929); Rose I. Stammeyer (b. 30 Aug 19321: Grace I Pavlovec (b. 1 Jul 1934V. James A, (b. 18 Feb 1936); Ruth V. Pavlovec (b. 26 Apr 1939); Helen Frances Langreck (b. 21 Jun 1941). All the children were born at the Old Mission Huber farm in the large stone home.

After Zeno's death Mildred retired to a small acreage near Ft. Atkinson in Nov of 1965 and spent her remaining years there. She died 28 Apr 1984 at the home of her daughter after a long illness. Zeno and Mildred are buried at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Ft. Atkinson.

Hughes, Frank W and Allie (Hoyt)

Frank Hughes, son of Daniel and Adeliza Hughes, was born near Watertown, NY 30 Aug 1859. There was a brother and possibly other children.

They had family connections in the South but chose to come to Decorah where they built a huge brick house at the intersection of Broadway and River Streets. This house which had 29 rooms and 31 closets later served as a livelihood for Adeliza when her husband Daniel was in the Civil War and also during her long years of widowhood.

Frank married Allie Hoyt in 1917. She was the daughter of David and Maria Hoyt of Decorah. Frank was City Clerk in Decorah for about 30 years. Allie died 12 Sep 1940 and Frank died 27 Sep 1944. They had no children.

The Hughes retained part of their home for living quarters and the rest of the house was made into apartments. After Frank’s death it was torn down and replaced with a smaller house for investment purposes.

Huinker, Charles and Edna (Brincks)

Charles G. Huinker was born 13 Dec 1920 at Seneca, Wl, the son of William and Ida (Einck) Huinker. William was born 29 Jan 1892 and died 25 May 1944. Ida was born 18 Jul 1898 and died 19 Sep 1961.

Charles attended school at St. Pat’s in Seneca and DeSales in Ossian, IA.

He married Edna Brincks 4 Apr 1945 at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian.

Edna was born 31 Jan 1920 at the Brincks farm home near Ossian, the daughter of Bernard and Susan (Weber) Brincks. Bernard was born 10 Jan 1890 and died 16 Apr 1952. Susan was born 11 Feb 1892 and died 4 Feb 1963.

Edna attended the rural school near her home and the DeSales Catholic School.

Charles and Edna Huinker

After their marriage Charles and Edna farmed for 3 years west of Ossian before moving on the Huinker farm in Bloomfield Twp. where they farmed until their retirement and moved to Ossian. They had 7 children: Janet, Judith, Nancy, Lawrence, Sheryl, Debra and Joseph. Janet Susan (b.  at Decorah) and m./1 Gary Larson; m./2 Donald J. Hanson 28 Jun 1985 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. There are 3 children: Randall and Kristy Larson and Joel Hanson. Judith Ann (b.at Decorah) married Eugene McGuire 28 Sep 1968 at St. Francis DeSales. They live near Boulder, CO. They have 3 children: Jody, Charles and Dawn. Nancv Mathilda married Lyle Bodensteiner 6 Jun 1970 at St. Francis DeSales. They live in Waukon. They have 4 children: Brian, Brenda. Amy and Nikki. Lawrence Joseph (b.at Decorah) married Marlis Koehn 20 May 1978 at Peace United Church in Elkader, Clayton Co. They live near Elkader. They have 2 children: Dustin and Dana. Sheryl Ann (b.at Decorah) married Herman (Bud) Stendel 20 Oct 1979 at St. Francis DeSales. They live near Nashua. They have 4 children: Brad, Sara, Shane and Jeremy. Debra Kav (b. at Decorah) married Ken Lutkenhaus 8 May 1976 at St. Francis DeSales. They live in Calmar and have 2 children: Carrie and Lindsay. Joseph Raymond (b. at Decorah) married Sheryl Snitker 26 Nov 1977 at St. Francis DeSales. They live near Ossian. They have 3 children: Jill Ann, Corey J. and Bobbie Jo.

Charles Huinker died at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah 2 Sep 1993. He is buried at the St. Francis DeSales Cemetery in Ossian.
